Compostable To-Go Packaging

  • December 3, 2020

We are passionate beach lovers, surfers, SCUBA divers, swimmers, boaters and all things OCEAN.  We have lived within walking distance of the beach for 35+ years and got married on the sand in Maui.  We feel deeply that it is a place for relaxation, rejuvenation, fun, family, friends and much, much more.  We donate to Heal the Bay, participate in beach cleanup’s and have had our menu certified by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program to make sure we are serving the best seafood, that is sustainable and not contributing to the depletion of our oceans resources or upsetting the delicate circle of life.
We recognize climate change and the harm that is being done to the environment by mankind. We also recognize that there is a need for change in our culture to take care of this planet for our children and future generations.  We feel the best way to make a difference is to set an example and lead change in our community. Therefore, in our effort to be proactive in conservation and our desire to reduce pollution (especially to our oceans), we have stopped using all plastic to-go containers and have converted 95% of our to-go containers to compostable/ biodegradable (food containers, cups, straws, etc..).  These earth friendly containers cost up to 5x more than typical styrofoam & plastic.
New Policy Beginning January 1, 2019
Due to this substantial additional cost, we need to pass a portion of this cost on to our customers and will begin adding 25¢ per to-go food container to all checks after January 1, 2019.    Thank you for helping us set an example we hope all restaurants and eventually all business will follow.  (we will continue to not charge anything additional for cups, straws or paper bags)
Thank you for helping us be better occupants of this planet and do what we can to keep it healthy for our children and generations yet to come – Chef Noelle and John Fanaris
